Government Urged to Address Unions Concerns
In recent months, the country has experienced a surge in the level of dissatisfaction among civil servants, sometimes close to civil disobedience, thus paralysing almost completely a given sector.
It is this observation that prompted President Ali Bongo to urge the government to organise a talk with unions, and civil society representatives in order to curb the situation.
On the agenda, a number of issues, most of which, pertaining to yet to be paid bonuses for the last term of 2014, as well as the revision of a number of allowances deemed justified.
Expressing its position, the government first wished to recall President Ali Bongo’s desire to increase salary for public sector employees, and all his deeds since he was sworn in to improve livelihood for Gabonese.
The government also called on Unions, and civil society in particular and the Gabonese people in general to be mindful of the current economic challenges the country is facing, for the current state of the economy impedes on the pursuit, and implementation of certain social policies.
It is in spite of all the above that President Ali Bongo insisted, and instructed the government that the bonus known as P.I.P be paid up rapidly, with the new salary structure in mind and until it be finalised.
